Donald David Belcher, age 79, of Pauma Valley, California passed away on Friday July 6, 2018. Donald was born November 29, 1938, in Kansas City, Missouri to Donald D. Belcher and Elizabeth Jane Martin Belcher. He was married to M. Marie Langguth Belcher.
Don graduated from Versailles High School in Versailles, MO; received his BA from Dartmouth College, where he was the President of Kappa Kappa Kappa fraternity; and he received his MBA at Stanford University.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army, ultimately holding the rank of Captain.
Don had a very distinguished career. He was the CEO and Chairman of the Banta Corporation, an NYSE listed public company. Earlier in his career, he was a Group Vice President at Avery Dennison, and prior to that he was the owner of Troutdale Ranch.
He served on numerous Boards of Directors, including Fellowes Brands, Scripps College, Arena Pharmaceuticals, Palomar Medical Center, and the Boy Scouts of America.
Don was an active philanthropist, supporting numerous causes, including World Vision, Living Water, Palomar Medical Center, and the Scholarship Fund at Pauma Valley Country Club.
Among his proudest achievements were those affiliated with the Boy Scouts of America. He was a Distinguished Eagle Scout; he was honored with all of the most significant National Service Awards, including the Silver Antelope, the Silver Beaver, and the Silver Buffalo. He was also the National Commissioner of the Scouts.
Don and Marie were veteran world travelers, visiting their favorite continent, Africa, 17 times. Don was an accomplished pilot, both fixed-wing and helicopter. And, more recently, with the help of his son-in-law Laurent, he built and flew a gyrocopter.
Donald is survived by his loving wife Marie, his sons Devon Belcher (Sheralee) and Eric Belcher (Lisa), and daughter Kristin Belcher Cuissot (Laurent). He and Marie have been blessed with five grandchildren: Ryan, Wyatt, and Heidi Cuissot; and Kyla and Mark Belcher. He is also survived by his three siblings: his brother John Belcher, and sisters Brooke Belcher (Steve) and Mallory Belcher Otis (Paul).
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 11th at 2pm at St. Francis Episcopalian Church (16608 CA-76, Pauma Valley, CA 92061). Following the service, we will gather at Pauma Valley Country Club (15835 Pauma Valley Dr.) for some refreshments.
