The loss of Don is hard to accept and bear. The grief comes in waves. We thought we would have him for some time to come.

Don was a very smart, capable, and decisive person. My mother said, “He has gold in his hands.” He could repair furniture or anything and make it look like new. He also enjoyed dancing and was good at it, even teaching at Fred Astaire Studios as a young man.

Don had the gift that if someone was out of place with a remark, through his sense of humor they got the point. They were not offended, but laughed along with him. His oldest brother Charles, whom we called Chuck, said, ”Don was the funniest person he ever knew.” Don had a very outgoing personality. People and children were drawn to him. He made a gathering, get together, or party come alive. I thought it was easy for him, but he said, “It takes work and someone has to do it.” 

I am so grateful Don met Eleonor. She was so devoted to him and treated him with such kindness. It is of much comfort that Eleonor was with him when he was no more. We are comforted knowing that the pain of this terrible disease is gone for Don and he is now in God’s memory.

Donald will always be remembered for his calm strength and the easy warmth he brought into every room. He had a way of making things feel lighter, even when they weren’t, and I’ll always be grateful for the kindness and quiet humor he shared with all of us. I hope wherever you are, there’s calm water, good company, and maybe a cat or two.

I was so saddened to learn of the passing of Uncle Donald. This news has hit us all very hard and I immediately thought of the immense pain Aunt Eleonor felt. 

Uncle Donald was a remarkable man. Even though we were separated by miles, he went out of his way to send us a copy of his book. I will always cherish the memories of their visit in the Philippines specially when he would tell stories and answer all sorts of questions that we could think of.  He was such a wonderful and cheerful uncle, and he'll be deeply, deeply missed by everyone here.

The neighborhood is.missing a great neighbor but we still have great memory and presents of your being there with us. Thank you for the memories caring for your future. Great time,thank you for being there. You make for a great wing. Man and boat captain. Farewell. Thank you for calling me family and for being a great friend. Rest in peace, Captain Donald. I love you brother.

It was a shock to hear the sad news, and we’re still trying to wrap our heads around it. But maybe we don’t need to, maybe it’s enough to just carry his spirit in our hearts. He had a kind soul and a childlike spirit. We’ll always remember his laugh and countless stories of crazy adventures.

To Uncle Donald - thank you for loving our aunt and making her happy. We’ll look out for her, just like you would have. Wherever you are, may you find peace.

We  cant believed your gone! Your memory will always be remembered. Your laughter that could lit up the room and presence that feels everyone is welcomed. Our heart is heavy as we bid goodbye to you Donald . May you rest  in peace.
