Feliz was born in San Antonio, Texas, to Susano Lopez Diaz and Refugio “Cuca” Diaz. She grew up alongside her three sisters, who remained her closest friends throughout childhood and into adulthood.
In 1958, Feliz met the love of her life, Joseph Lane, at the local USO while he was stationed in San Antonio. Two years later, after Joe received overseas orders, he proposed to her in the living room of her childhood home, with her little sister, Tonie, secretly watching from beneath the kitchen table. They were married for 66 wonderful years. Like any marriage, they faced life’s challenges together, always leaning on one another through every joy and hardship. During Joe’s military career, they moved frequently while building a loving home and raising their three children: Mark Lane, Ruth Baltierra-Nash, and Tanya Wolverton.
While Feliz was a devoted wife and mother, her greatest joy and proudest accomplishment was becoming a grandmother and great-grandmother. Nothing meant more to her than her family. She loved them unconditionally, offering endless support, unwavering prayers, and a listening ear no matter what life brought their way.
Throughout Joe’s military career, Feliz worked as a housekeeper before transitioning into bookkeeping in the healthcare industry, where she remained until her retirement. Her faith in God was the foundation of her life. She was a devoted member of her church, where she faithfully prayed, volunteered, and continually sought to deepen her relationship with God.
Feliz also had a gift for crafting and sewing, creating countless handmade treasures for those she loved. She especially cherished sharing her creativity with each of her granddaughters. She could often be found enjoying a good Lifetime movie, followed by one of her well-earned afternoon naps.
Feliz is survived by her beloved husband of 66 years, Joe; her children, Mark (Marlene) Lane, Ruth (Mike) Nash, and Tanya (Eric) Wolverton; her seven grandchildren, Justin (Krystal) Lane, Sarah (Alex) Jankowski, Selena (Justin Redfern) Baltierra, Marcello (Kathryn) Baltierra, Stacey Wolverton, Faith Lane, and Tyler (Grace Scally) Wolverton; her six great-grandchildren, Brody Lane, Parker Lane, Eli Baltierra, Duke Redfern, Augustine Redfern, and another great-grandchild expected in August. She is also survived by many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were touched by her love and kindness.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her three sisters, Eduarda Schwarzbach, Maria Teran, and Antonia Diaz.
Feliz’s legacy is one of faith, unconditional love, generosity, and quiet strength. She leaves behind a family whose lives were made richer by her kindness, wisdom, and steadfast devotion. Though she will be deeply missed, her love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
We welcome all her friends and family to pray and celebrate her wonderful life on Monday, July 13th for a viewing from 4:00-6:00pm at McLeod’ Mortuary (1919 East Valley Pkwy, Escondido, CA).
