Jon Charles Bunting, 86, died July 12, 2026. Born October 23, 1939, in Waverly, Iowa, Jon was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose life was marked by steady devotion to faith, family, and service. He resided in San Marcos, California.
Jon graduated from Waukon Public High School and attended the University of Dubuque in Dubuque, IA, carrying forward a practical curiosity that would shape his years ahead.
He served in the US Navy, a chapter of his life that reflected a deep respect for duty and country. In his professional life, Jon worked in computer electronics for National Cash Register and Honeywell Electronic, bringing care and reliability to the work he did and the people he worked alongside.
On November 12, 1960, Jon married Gloria Wyatt. Their marriage of 65 years and 8 months stood as a testament to enduring partnership and shared purpose. Together they raised three daughters: Rebecca Lynn, Deborah Kay, and Dianne Renee (David). Jon also leaves behind 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, each a continuation of the family he cherished.
Jon loved to travel with his wife and 3 daughters, and he found lasting joy in simple, meaningful pursuits—woodworking, camping, traveling, and growing his Avocado Trees. These interests reflected a life grounded in patience, craftsmanship, and appreciation for the world close at hand as well as the places beyond it.
A member of Emmanuel Faith Community Church in Escondido, Jon participated in “Men on a Mission” at the church. Above all, he loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and that faith remained a guiding presence throughout his life.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude: Thank you to Costal Hospice for the kind care over the last year.
