

Lyle was born to the late Levi Howard and Sarah Ethel Paddock Wellman on April 30, 1912 in Terra Haute, Indiana. Lyle was the second of five children, Arnold Trent Wellman, the late Thora Lavina Wellman, the late John Paddock Wellman, the late Mae Belle Wellman Graham.
After the family relocated to Index, Washington, Lyle graduated at 16 years old from Mt. Index High School. He attended the University of Washington in Seattle and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy in 1932. He married the late Roberta Norris Wellman and had two children, Sandra Wellman Heberling and Lee Allen Wellman. He later married the late Margaret Newson Wellman and had two children, Barbara Wellman Mason and Kathleen Wellman Doorly. Many years later, he married the late Grace Oliver Wellman.
Lyle was licensed by Washington State in 1933 and began his career as a Registered Pharmacist. In 1935, he joined Abbott Laboratories, of North Chicago, Illinois and remained there until 1945. After the war, he moved to Portland, Oregon to work for Haack Pharmaceutical from 1945 to 1949.
In 1949 Lyle moved to Seattle, Washington where he co-founded Kirkman Laboratories. He later moved to California in 1969 where he worked in the pharmaceutical business until his retirement at age of 70. In 1987, he moved to Desert Hot Springs, where he built three houses with Putt in addition to golfing with friends.
Lyle is survived by his brother, Arnold Wellman (Putt); his children Sandra Heberling, Lee Wellman, Barbara Mason, and Kathleen Doorly; his grandchildren, Rebecca Dines, Boyd Dines, Shannon Dines Thomas, Kevin Wellman, Karen Wellman, Todd Mason, Michael Doorly, and Corry Mason; his great-grandchildren, Monique Dines, Alyssa Dines Losk, Russell Dines, Jordan Thomas, William Thomas, Anne Sutherland, Alex Sutherland, Leanne Wellman, Alexis Wellman, Katelyn Wellman, Kaylin Doorly, Ryan Doorly, Emma Mason, Casey Russell; and great-great-grandchild, Christopher Dines.
