Marion Nadine Smith was born April 29th, 1928 in Redlands CA to Rensselaer and Lillian Smith. Nadine was a strong independent woman who was colorful, funny, creative, generous and caring. She loved plants and flowers and doing art projects of all kinds.
Nadine went to San Jose State College where she studied Art and Interior Design graduating in June 1950. During college Nadine belonged to a Christian group and a sorority where she met many of her lifelong friends. It is safe to say that Nadine loved the cosmopolitan nature of San Jose and San Francisco. She met Jay Griebel at San Jose State and they were married in April of 1951.
Nadine and Jay settled in Anaheim, CA in 1956 where they raised their two children, Craig and Christy. Nadine loved to work in her garden where she planted succulents and flowers. Nadine took mosaic tile classes and was always working on various art projects. She loved the beach and took her family often stopping at fresh produce stands along the way.
Nadine moved to Carlsbad, CA in 1984 to begin a new phase of her life. She enjoyed walks on the beach and the local lagoons and worked on her many art projects. Paper collage art was her specialty. She decorated boxes and made cards using dried flowers, colored paper and just about anything you could imagine. She loved her 2 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren and was always interested in how they were doing and spending time with them. She loved playing games, working on puzzles, and doing art projects with them. She loved playing slot machines and would say they were calling her.
Nadine moved to Scripps Ranch in San Diego, CA in late 2015 to be close to her son and daughter. She enjoyed working on puzzles, playing games with her family. Every visit was an opportunity for her to impart her view on things and keep you laughing. She spent her last year in a Memory Care Facility near her family. She maintained her brand of humor and greatly enjoyed the staff, her new friends, games, cornhole, balloon volleyball and the entertainment. She liked to call herself the Queen. Her many sayings will keep us laughing and remind us of her. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends but is at peace now with our Lord Jesus.
Hallelujah
