Olga Elena Avila

Olga was born on November 19th, 1935. She was born to a single mother with a challenging Teaching career. Olga lived with her mother, then her grandparents and Uncle Manuel for the first 8 years of her life. Those were the most memorable years of her life. She was their princess and she lived happily with all the love and attention she received from her Uncle whom she called Papa, and her very elderly grandparents. Her beloved Papa, was killed by a stray bullet between two men in a duel. Her life changed overnight . Her grandparents became very sad and sickly and within 6 months she had lost her Uncle and her grandparents...Olga went back to live with her Mother who had Married and had three other daughters. Mom was Nana’s biggest helper. She helped care for her sisters and helped with the household chores . Eventually she finished school and attended college. She earned a degree in Business Accounting. She worked several jobs in that field , before she met her first husband Emilio Vidal whose family lived in the same town in Sonora Mexico, since they left the US during the depression. It was a whirlwind romance. They married the very next year . January 6, 1957...They had three daughters during their 12 year marriage ; Maria Elena, Rosa Emilia and , Anna Lupe . Olga worked tirelessly to make ends meet, never wanting to leave her girls unattended , she dedicated herself to buying, selling and restoring antique furniture , a trait she had learned from Emilio who was an excellent carpenter...In 1972 Olga and her three girls moved to Escondido . Still working in the same field, she met her second husband Wilebaldo Avila. He was a heaven sent blessing to a woman and her three little girls. They married in 1974 and added a Son to the family. The love of her life was born in April 1975 ...Wilebaldo didn’t want her working so hard anymore. She took a job working in the Escondido School District for 6 years then moved on to a job with St. Vincent de Paul. During her years there , One of her most memorable moments was meeting Mother Teresa of Calcutta . She retired in 1996 and opened another Resale Shop in Pauma Valley. Olga loved helping people and often gave clothing and blankets to people in need. She vas very loved by her Community. Olga and Wilebaldo lovingly helped raise 8 grandchildren . Olga was a true Warrior. Whilst never losing her Dignity, she survived Breast and Lymph Node Cancer . Olga had Alzheimer’s and Dementia for 12 years. She still knew all her Children, Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. She gave love in abundance...Olga loved her children but Adored her Grandchildren...Olga left us on ; February 24th... She will be greatly missed ...Forever in our hearts Mami, Nuestra Reina..

Olga Elena Avila
