after a long & courageous battle with cancer.
Phil was born in Minneapolis, MN. Along with his family, Phil moved to Southern California in 1957 & this is where his love for baseball developed. As a young boy, Phil was known to ride his bike across town in San Jacinto & out into
the countryside to "play ball" with his school buddies. He continued to play Little League, Pony League, throughout high school at Antelope Valley H.S. & Junior College, both in Lancaster, CA. His dad, Aunt Helen & he played catch
many a summer afternoon, while evenings were spent on the patio listening to Vin Scully announce Los Angeles Dodgers baseball games on the radio. In addition, Phil ran cross-country in high school & continued running throughout
his adult life. He ran 25 or more Baker to Vegas relay runs with both the LAPD & the SD District Attorney teams.
Phil graduated from San Jose State College in February 1971 with a Bachelors degree in Criminal Science. In January 1972, he married his college sweetheart, Marcia Stone & the two have enjoyed more than 40 years together raising
their two children, Robby & Amy. During the 1970s, Phil also served 6 years in the National Guard.
Phil fulfilled his childhood dream when he joined the Los Angeles Police Department in 1972. He loved every colorful, storied moment of his 20 years with the LAPD & upon retiring, continued his love for law enforcement by joining the
County of San Diego District Attorney, Department of Investigation in 1992. During his 20 year professional history with the District Attorney, he received many outstanding awards including, the highlight, Investigator of Year in 2005.
In 2008, Phil had the great honor of attending the FBI National Academy in Quanico, VA. The experience was truly a highlight of his career.
A devoted father, Phil actively participated in his children's many activities during their childhood & teen years, including coaching soccer & baseball. The family relished many summer vacations at Lake Tahoe with his wife's family.
Phil will forever be remembered & never forgotten as a devoted, loving husband, father & brother; a loyal, humorous friend; an honorable, dedicated colleague, die-hard baseball fan (Padres!) & devout man of faith.
Phil is survived by his wife, Marcia; son, Robby & his wife, Laura; daughter, Amy & her husband, Benny; mother, Cordula; sisters, Dorthy & Sally, & two beautiful, dearly-loved grand-daughters, Emily & Kylie, & many loving
relatives & friends.
His family is forever deeply grateful to all those who went out of their way to make Phil's last days memorable & meaningful. You each are a treasured gift. Thank you!
A Memorial Celebration of Phil's life will be held at Maranatha Chapel, 10752 Coastwood Road, Rancho Bernardo, 92127 on Monday, April 23 @ 11AM.
