February 15, 1952 – May 24, 2025
With deep love and heartfelt sorrow, we announce the passing of Roberto Ortiz Romo, who entered into eternal rest on May 24, 2025, at the age of 73.
Born on February 15, 1952, in National City, California, Roberto was a man whose life was marked by service, humility, and steadfast love for his family. As a young student at Olivewood Elementary School, he demonstrated an early commitment to responsibility and leadership by joining the Junior Traffic Patrol in 1964—a sign of the path he would walk for the rest of his life.
During his early years, Roberto lived in Tijuana, Baja California, where he began his journey into fatherhood. His deep devotion to family and strong moral values shaped everything he did, becoming the foundation of a life lived with purpose and heart.
Roberto served with distinction as a Peace Officer for the City of National City, earning the trust and admiration of his colleagues and the community. He later continued his work in law enforcement as a Campus Police Officer at the University of San Diego. Among the many bonds he formed throughout his career, none was more meaningful than his enduring friendship with Officer Paul Mancuso, his longtime partner and brother in service.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sara Romo; his children, Jose Roberto, Mayra Elizabeth, Martina Leticia, and Luis Alberto; his stepchildren, Jackie, Xochi, and Pedro; and his many beloved grandchildren. To his family, Dad was a pillar of strength, a source of wisdom, and a living example of grace, loyalty, and unconditional love. He taught those around him the value of unity, the power of faith, and the importance of always standing together.
On November 12, 2023, Roberto was baptized by Minister Ricardo Sumner at The Point Church, publicly affirming his faith and receiving the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ—a moment of profound peace and spiritual renewal that brought great comfort to him and those who loved him.
He will be remembered for his quiet humility, unwavering dedication, and the deep love he carried for his family and community. His legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew him.
“Well done, good and faithful servant… enter into the joy of your Lord.” – Matthew 25:23
