Mrs. Sara Abele, daughter of the late Michael Mattes and Sara Mattes, was born August 28, 1939 in Romania. She was married to Horia Constantinescu in 1960 and had a daughter together, Manuela Constantinescu in 1962. She later joined her family in Germany in 1969 and arrived in America in 1972. Here, she joined the German Club in Anaheim where she met Richard Abele, whom she married and lived together in Bellflower, CA. Through the German Club, she and Richard made many friends. Sara was such a dear friend to everyone in her group and always made every effort to keep in touch, called them on their birthdays, wrote many, many Christmas cards every year and was there for them when in need. She loved having friends over and enjoyed their company.

In 1990, she and Richard moved to Escondido, CA and continued to stay in touch with her friends no matter how far. Friendships meant very much to her. She made new friends in her complex at Citrus Gardens and was very involved in the community by organizing fun activities such as card game days, birthday celebrations for members and other events. She loved visiting those in need to comfort them and feel loved. She was an excellent cook and loved to offer others some of her treasured European dishes just because she cared. Her influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her.

She quietly departed this life on Thursday, June 10th, 2021. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Abele in 2010.

Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children: Manuela St Jean (Constantinescu) of Thousand Oaks, CA, Elizabeth Welch (Abele) of New Zealand; grandson: Ryan St Jean of Thousand Oaks, CA; sister: Christine Schmidt of Germany; brother: Helmut Mattes of Germany; cousin: Mariana Dogariu of Romania; and of course many, many of her friends.
