

Our beloved mother, Susan Elizabeth Dohm died peacefully in her sleep Wednesday, August 27, 2025 at 5:13 pm at Desert Springs Escondido, Mesa, Arizona. She had been suffering from congestive heart failure for many years. Susan was born on April 19, 1938 to Sylvia (Walterlin) and Harvey Hollabaugh McWilliams in Nebraska City, NE. After moving to Santa Cruz, CA and experiencing devastating flooding of their home, the family moved to the San Diego area.
Susan attended Grossmont High School from 1953-55 and graduated from El Cajon Valley High School with honors in 1956. Susan entered the inaugural 1955 Greater San Diego Science Fair winning second place in the Girls’ Biology Senior Division and again won second place in the overall Senior Division in 1956. From 1956-58 she attended San Diego State College and was a member of the Sigma Kappa sorority.
Susan married her sweetheart, Francis “Frank” Dohm, on December 27, 1958, in San Diego. They had four children and were active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Long time resident of Poway, Susan served as organist for many years, and was a Sunday School teacher, Young Women’s President, founding Poway Stake Humanitarian Coordinator and a temple worker. With her husband Frank, she served as a service missionary for the church at the San Diego Bishop’s Storehouse Welfare Services from 2000-05.
She taught Consumer Education and Child Development at Mt. Carmel High School (1982-83) and University of San Diego High School (1985-87). She returned to college when her children were older earning her BS Degree from San Diego State University in Home Economics with distinction in1979, and a MA Degree at National University in 1981.
She is survived by her children: Michael (Sharon) Dohm of Carriere, MS; Lisa (Thomas) Taylor of Jacksonville, FL; Rodger (Sherri) Dohm of Ramona, CA; and Shelley (Kevin) Weight of Chandler, AZ; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services will be held on Friday, September 12, 2025, at 10am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 14211 Twin Peaks Rd., Poway, officiated by Bishop Grant Sawyer, with a viewing prior from 9-10 am. Graveside service and dedication at Dearborn Memorial Park in Poway at 1pm following.
