Phyllis Ann Kleinknecht Huff, 83, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, September 18, 2019. She was born January 25, 1936 to Charles and Mathilda Kleinknecht. She was the youngest of five children.
Phyllis grew up in Evansville and graduated from Reitz High School in 1954. On October 17, 1959, she married her true love, Jerome (Jerry) Huff. Together they spent the next 50 years devoted to each other until Jerry’s passing on December 19, 2009.
She dearly loved Jerry and their two children, Jeane and J.R. She spent many days volunteering at their schools, church, 4-H, and horse related functions. Her God given ability to love and nurture children was one of her most notable qualities. Phyllis loved spending time with nieces and nephews, and the children of cherished friends. Her ability to understand, motivate, and love them was remarkable. All felt truly loved while spending time with her. Those times included playing with animals of all kinds. While growing up, Phyllis fostered animals, including goats, lambs, kittens, rabbits, ducks, chickens, and even a pet squirrel who would come to her when she called.
It’s no wonder Jerry and Phyllis chose to have a small farm on Evansville’s west side to raise Jeane and J.R. As a family, they enjoyed showing Quarter Horses. It was inevitable that the love of animals, especially horses, would grow in the hearts of Phyllis’ greatest blessings, her two grandchildren, Houston and Harley Huff.
Phyllis cheered Houston and Harley on at every horse show she could possibly attend. Their baseball and volleyball games filled the rest of her schedule. She considered herself most blessed to have J.R. and his wife Janet along with Houston and Harley build a house on the farm. Having them live next door was a dream come true.
Phyllis and Jerry attended St. Paul’s UCC and Christian Fellowship Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Jeane; son, J.R. and his wife Janet; grandchildren, Houston and Harley; nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 23, 2019 at Christian Fellowship Church, 4100 Millersburg Road, with burial in Park Lawn Cemetery.
