

Aleene P. Mackey, 90, of Evansville, received the best Christmas present ever, Heaven. She passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2016 at 1:10 a.m. She was born July 31, 1926, in Evansville, to the late Thompson and Sallie Payne.
She was a member of St. James West United Methodist Church, where she served in many ways. She especially enjoyed working in their booth at the West Side Fall Festival, preparing for rummage sales, and planning and serving meals at members’ funeral dinners. She had a servant’s heart and gave of her time at the West Side Food Pantry and as a Pink Lady at Deaconess Hospital. Aleene loved her family and enjoyed bragging about her 6 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She loved her dog, Maggie, who was her constant companion the last 11 years.
Aleene was preceded in death by her high school sweetheart and husband for 62 years, Billie Mackey; her parents, Thompson and Sallie Payne; her brothers, Charles, J.D., and Bill Payne.
She is survived by her sons, Steven (Sue) Mackey, Larry (Amy) Mackey; her daughter, Sally (John) Bagby; her grandchildren, Brian (Christina) Mackey, Stephanie (Ian) Cushman, Eric (Amy) Mackey, Allison (Jason) Bowers, Sarah (David) Ryon, J.T. (Jessica) Bagby; her great-grandchildren, Connor and Ethan Mackey, Evan and Kyler Cushman, Cait and Colin Mackey, Anna, Elora and Isaac Bowers, John Ryon, Lyndsey, Tiffany and Kristina Garza, and Olivia Bagby; her sister, Dorothy Dorris and sister-in-law, Lois Payne.
A Celebration of Her Life will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 30, 2016, at Alexander West Chapel officiated by Pastor Gene Backes with entombment in Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday and 9:00 a.m. until service time on Friday at the funeral home.
