Alice Mae (Rouleau) Weisling , 94, passed away peacefully at her home in Evansville, IN on July 2, 2026. Alice was born in 1932 in Rochester, New Hampshire (a Leap Year baby). She was the second of 6 girls in the Rouleau family. After a year of teacher training studies at Keene Teachers College in New Hampshire, she traveled across the US to train to become a WAVE in the US Navy in Seattle in order to get education benefits.
Alice became an Electronics Technician, repairing radio and sonar equipment. She was the only female in her class of 1000! She met the love of her life (Charles “Chuck” Weisling) during her time in the Navy. Chuck was a radioman, and she repaired his equipment! Much later in her life, as a Veteran, Alice was selected to participate in the Honor Flight of Southern Indiana trip to Washington, DC in 2024 and loved telling her story to fascinated school children during the trip. Alice was recently presented with a Quilt of Valor for her service.
Evansville (Chuck’s hometown) became her home in the late 1950s where they raised a son and 2 daughters in a lovely house on the West Side. They were married 70 years and lived in the same house for 63 years until their move to The Villages at Holiday in 2022.
Alice finished her college degree in biology at Evansville College. After completing a round of student teaching, she accepted a position at Bristol Myers (Mead Johnson) where she enjoyed working for 40 years. Alice loved to learn and received her Master’s Degree in Library Science from Indiana State University. She became director of the Research Library until she virtualized the library, shutting down the physical location, and she retired. This was ahead of the times as it was early 1990s - "Connections Not Collections." She has always been a pioneer.
In 2009 Alice worked tirelessly along with Chuck to champion support for the West Side of Evansville as leaders of the West Siders Against Annexation project. When a push for Consolidation was started, she continued to rally with Chuck through CORE (Citizens Opposed to Reorganization in Evansville). She was fiercely proud of being a Westsider.
Alice learned to golf in her later years and loved to golf with Chuck. She was extremely proud of her hole in one at Howell Golf Course! Alice was very passionate about sewing and was an excellent seamstress. She made most of her clothes and was known for her beautiful wardrobe and tailoring skills. Eventually she took up quilting and machine embroidery as well. Alice had an expansive Sewing Room in her house that would be the envy of serious quilters/sewers everywhere. She shared her skills by teaching several neighborhood children to sew. It was her Happy Place!
Alice lived out her final years at the Villages at Holiday in Evansville where she made many friends with other residents and staff. She loved her time at the Villages and her family is extremely grateful to all the staff for their loving care and support.
Alice will be lovingly missed by all her family. Charles passed away in 2023. Their son, Alan Weisling, passed away in 2022. Alice is survived by daughters (Linda Weisling Torkington/ Richard Torkington of Mesa Arizona and Janet Weisling Seiler/Eric Seiler of Westside Evansville), grandchildren (Janel Torkington/Isam Alegre of Barcelona Spain and John Torkington/ Taylor Radcliffe of Mesa Arizona) and great-grandson (Olau Torkington Alegre of Barcelona Spain).
Visitation will be held on July 29 from 4-7pm at Alexander Funeral Home West, 2100 W Illinois St, Evansville, IN 47710.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Alice’s name to Honor Flight of Southwest Indiana (honorflightsi.org), P.O. Box 8234, Evansville, IN 47716 to allow other Veterans to experience what she deemed the trip of a lifetime.
Condolences may be offered at www.AlexanderWestChapel.com.
