Anna Hughes

Anna "Ruthie" Hughes, age 93, passed away on Monday, August 11, 2025 at the Evansville Protestant Home. She was born in Powderly, KY on August 30, 1931 to the late Roscoe Hawes and Annie (Loney) Hawes.

She was a member of Grace Baptist Church, where she served on the church planting team and sang in the choir. She also worked in the church nursery for 25 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 74 years, Marion Dee Hughes; 7 brothers and sisters; and 5 step brothers and sisters.

Anna is survived by her daughters, DeAnna Yonts (Richard), and Charlotte Hill (Steven); son, Mark Hughes; grandchildren, John Downey (Melissa), Brad Downey (Samantha), Mitchell Hughes (Morgan), Michael Hughes; 8 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Betty Lee Stubblefield (Harold), and Mary Lou Gorham; brother, Andrew Hawes (Marsha); and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at Alexander East Chapel, 2115 Lincoln Avenue, Evansville, IN officiated by Rev. Bobby Pell. Family and friends may visit from 2:00 p.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home. Private burial will take place on Monday.
