Obituary of Barbara Ann (Thompson) Rivard
Barbara Ann (Thompson) Rivard of Evansville, IN passed away peacefully on Friday, September 25th, 2020, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on December 19th, 1933, in East Orange, NJ to the late Pauline (Sheehan) and Vincent Thompson. Barbara, also known as “Mom,” “Grandma” and “Aunt Barbara,” lived a full life of almost 87 years. She earned a BS degree in Economics from the University of Rhode Island in 1955. In 1956 she married her lifelong love, William Henry Rivard- to whom she was known as “Brown Eyes,” and they remained inseparable for the next 62 years until his passing in 2018. Barbara was the beloved matriarch of her large, devoted family. Her sweet nature, sense of humor and boundless optimism will be dearly missed. She follows treasured family members gone before her, including her parents, Pauline and Vincent Thompson, her husband, William Henry Rivard, her beloved daughter Beth Rivard (Dan) Garnett and son Raymond (Ruth) Rivard. Barbara is remembered and loved by her children Bill Rivard of Boulder, CO, Russ (Jacquetta) Rivard of Dallas, TX, Paul (Kelly) Rivard and Jeanne Rivard (Nathan) Moutoux of Georgetown, IN, and her sister, Virginia Gibbons of Hingham, MA and brother, William Thompson, of Annapolis, MD. Barbara has 19 amazing and loving grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren (so far) across the US. The funeral mass will be on Wednesday, September 30th at 10:00 am at St. Boniface Catholic Church, 418 N. Wabash Avenue, Evansville IN 47712, officiated by Father John Brosmer. A visitation gathering preceding the mass will be held at 9:00 am at the entrance of the church. Burial will follow the mass at Alexander Memorial Park at 2200 Mesker Park Drive in Evansville.
