Obituary of Ben T. Field
Ben Thomas Field, 84, passed away Thursday, November 21, 2019 at his home in Evansville, IN surrounded by family. Ben was born on January 20, 1935 in Owensboro, KY, to Benjamin and Elizabeth Field. On November 20, 1955, Ben married his beautiful wife, who was his former high school sweetheart Margaret Ruth Irish. Ben completed his education at Yale University with a Master’s degree in Fine Arts in 1959. A talented graphic designer, Ben went into advertising and worked for some of the biggest names in the industry on the East Coast before settling in Evansville to raise a family. He later opened his own ad agency Rowe & Field. Though formally retired, Ben never stopped working or drawing. He did pencil sketches of area homes and famous landmarks on their trips to Europe. He also painted many murals in homes, businesses, and the Methodist Temple. Ben’s other art form was music. Ben started playing the trombone in the 4th grade and never quit. He played with the brass ensemble at the Methodist Temple and joined the Temple Airs big band at its inception, some forty plus years ago, and played with them until just recently. Ben truly loved his church, if the doors were unlocked, he was probably there. Some of his church activities were singing in the choir, starting and directing the gospel choir, and teaching Sunday school. Ben is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Margaret along with three children, Matthew Field, Melissa Field, and Elizabeth Harrison; and five grandchildren, Ashley, Kyle, Hillary, Alexandra, and Benjamin. Ben wanted to enjoy his life and he did! He was the best husband, father, and granddad we could ever hope for. We will all miss his joyful attitude, loving kindness, and his incredible sense of humor. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, November 24, 2019 at Methodist Temple, 2109 Lincoln Ave., Evansville, IN 47714 with Pastor Andy Payton officiating. Friends may visit from 2:00 until 3:30 at the church Sanctuary. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Methodist Temple, 2109 Lincoln Ave., Evansville, IN 47714.
