Betty L. Boetticher

Evansville lost one of its biggest fans with the passing of Betty Boetticher on December 16, 2013. She leaves a devoted group of friends and relatives who loved her and remember her gift for connecting instantly with people, lighting up a room with her laugh, her sense of humor, and relish for life.

Born in Evanston, Illinois on March 18, 1916, she spent her childhood in Chicago. Her fondest memories of that time are of walks taken with her favorite dog, a chow with an attitude, and her beginning love affair with city life that she nurtured throughout her life. It was in Chicago that she met her one and only Thomas Boetticher, an Evansville native. They began their 55-year marriage in Los Angeles, where they raised their children and watched and loved them as they grew and started families of their own.

Her son Carl and daughter Caryl would say she began the last great chapter in her life when she moved to Evansville after the death of her husband Thomas in 1995. Her connection with the city had always been strong and included many visits to her beloved mother-in-law Brunhilde Boetticher of Newburgh. She reconnected with friends and found new interests in a city she loved. With her home in The Woodland as her base she traveled frequently to New York, Dallas, Sacramento, Chicago, and especially to Harlixton for wonderful summer tours.

She leaves behind her son Carl and daughter-in-law Star Boetticher and daughter Caryl and son-in-law Ken Henry, as well as grandchildren Dina Scott, Kelly Henry, Nick Boetticher, Taylor Boetticher, and Claire Boetticher. Also surviving are great grandchildren Cameron Scott, and Max and Henry Boetticher.

A Memorial service to honor her memory and celebrate her life will be held at 1:00 PM on January 4, 2014 at First Presbyterian Church in Evansville. A reception at the Kennel Club for friends and family follows the service.
