Betty attended Centinel Grade School and graduated from Reitz High School in 1943.
She worked at Mead Johnson for a short time before marrying Elwood “Shorty” Briel in September 1946. They were married for 57 years. They had two children, Bruce Earl Briel and Linda Kay Briel Todd.
Betty enjoyed dancing, cooking, grilling out with her husband, playing washers, boating, and going to the river and camping out. She was very active at her church, St. Peters United Church of Christ on Darmstadt Road. She was very involved in the actives of the church. She was in charge of communion for several years. She enjoyed helping with baking kuchens and burgoo.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Shorty; brother, Thomas Lee Kormelink; and great-great-grandson, Malachi Lee Todd.
Betty is survived by her son, Bruce Earl Briel and his wife Linda J.; daughter, Linda K. Briel Todd and her husband Carl; grandchildren, Adam Lee Todd and his wife Chrystal and Jennifer Mae Meeks and her husband Bryan K.; four great-grandchildren, Gabriell Todd, Cody Durham, Dustin Lee Todd, and Alexis McKay Meeks; great-great-granddaughter, Aaleana Durham; many nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, Walter Smith of OK; and sister-in-law, Mary Kormelink of Evansville.
We would like to thank the staff of North Park Nursing Center for their care and help with our mother while she was a resident there at the North Park Facility.
Services will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at Alexander West Chapel, officiated by Rev. Brian Buschkill with burial at Alexander Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit Tuesday from 2:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home
