

Betty Joyce Hurt was born on March 10, 1930 in Evansville, Indiana. Her father was Rufus L. Branson and her mother was Myrtle Overby Branson. Betty attended Central High School in Evansville and at 17 she married the Reverend Cecil Herzer Hurt on May 17, 1947. Cecil and Betty were married in a loving union for 64 years.
Betty is survived by by her three children: Diana L. Carlyle, C. Bradley, and Martha J.
Eckert (Chuck). She is also survived by her spiritual daughter Donna M. Sweet.
Betty, referred to her grand children as "Honey". She was blessed to have Charles C
Eckert (Jackie) and David S. Carlyle Il as her grandsons.
Great grandchildren include: Charles James Patrick Eckert, Maghdalena Grace Eckert and Henry Marvin Eckert.
Betty is also survived by her loving great niece and nephew, Tammie Hine and Jim Clark.
As a dedicated wife of a United Methodist Church pastor, Betty was an inspiration to the congregations she lovingly supported throughout her years of service. Bringing joy to all with her God given talent of music, especially the piano.
"She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks of wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also and he praises her. Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all. Honor her for all her hands have done, and let her works bring her paise at the city gate." - Proverbs 31; 25 - 31
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 24, 2025 at Alexander East Chapel, 2115 Lincoln Ave. Evansville, IN with Fr. Dusty Burns officiating.
