Brent R. Weil

Brent was a 1978 graduate of F.J. Reitz High School, then continued his education and obtained a degree in Biochemistry from Purdue University before going on to law school at Valparaiso University where he obtained his J.D. in 1985.

He retired from the Kightlinger & Gray law firm in 2022 where he had practiced as an insurance defense attorney since 1985. Brent also served as a part-time Deputy Prosecutor for Vanderburgh County, primarily handling white collar crime, securities prosecutions, and firearms-related cases. He was member of the Evansville Bar Association, the Defense Research Institute, and the Defense Trial Lawyers of Indiana. He was named “Super Lawyer” in Indiana for several years. Brent was passionate about the practice of the law and loved the challenges involved in court cases when defending his clients. He fought with intense purpose and total commitment to protect his clients’ legal rights and to achieve the best possible result. No case was simply routine in his eyes.

Brent had a lifetime interest in military history, collecting firearms and the competitive shooting sports since he was in high school. Brent was deeply patriotic and had lifelong respect for the military and law enforcement. He became involved with the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Department Reserve Deputy Program in the late 80’s and continued to offer support to the department in whatever way he could until his professional retirement. He was a Benefactor member of the National Rifle Association and also chaired the local Friends of NRA Committee for almost 30 years.

Politics were a passion for Brent as well, as he clearly understood that an engaged and educated citizenry was the best defense against tyranny. Many can talk the talk, but few can walk the walk like Brent. Ironically, Brent met the love of his life from a political gathering while he was campaign manager for then sheriff-candidate Joe Rhodes in 1990.

Brent believed in helping those less fortunate and donated both his time and money to many charities. He served on the Board of Albion Fellows Bacon Center for several years in addition to pioneering its annual Gala event. Brent was also a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in German Township, where he was heavily involved with the Men and Boys group.

Brent was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Jody Weil; son, Adam Weil; and his beloved service dog, Ike.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 25, 2026, at St. Paul's UCC in German Township, officiated by Brother Mike Winge, Sr., with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Friends and family may visit from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at Alexander West Chapel and from 9 a.m. until service time on Friday at church.
