Camden Andrew Hancock, 19, of Evansville, lost his courageous battle with brain cancer on October 2, 2018. He was born August 11, 1999 in Evansville, the son of Dyke Andrew Hancock and Sara Ann (Leonard) Springer. He graduated from FJ Reitz High School in 2018 and was a two year starter on the varsity baseball team. Camden also participated in freshman basketball while at Reitz, and played for numerous baseball teams during his high school baseball career.
Camden was a member of the National Honor Society. Camden’s passion was baseball and following The Ohio State University . He played at a very high level and met many of his closest friends during his playing days. He also loved going to car shows and talking cars with his dad, spending time with his hundreds of closest friends, and showing off his skiing and tubing skills at his aunt and uncle’s lake in Northern Indiana.
Camden’s battle began on April 18th when his tumor was discovered. Since that day the support our families have received has been incredible. Because of this, the Hancock/Springer families would like to take the time to thank several people. Close family friend Jennifer Wood for her countless hours of love and support, keeping the community updated, and tv interviews when the family wasn’t up to it. We love you dearly for all you have done. We’d also like to thank Camden’s medical team which includes Dr. Mark Browning, Dr. Neil Troffkin, Dr. David Kim, Dr. Eric Goebel, Dr. Moots at Vanderbilt, Dr. Kizilbash and his team at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, and the countless nurses in ICU and the Neurological unit at Deaconess Gateway. Meagan Meeks, Chris (Squirrel) Litherland, Maddie Horton. And we also want to give a very special thank you to Rachel Bridwell who was Camden’s nurse in ICU after his initial brain surgery on April 20th. Rachel took Camden under her wing and made countless visits to our home to check on Camden and help with Camden. She is a true blessing to our family. We’d also like to thank Fester for your amazing contributions through your fundraiser, and all of the high school baseball and sports teams throughout the tri-state. Reitz head baseball coach Todd Deweese and his staff, coach Steve Ricketts of Mater Dei and the Mater Dei baseball team for their tribute to Camden on Senior Night, Beth Hagan (Athletic Director Reitz High School). There are so many more that we are missing and we apologize. To everyone who has been in Camden’s life, thank you so much. We would like to thank everyone who has donated via Go Fund Me and offered their support throughout this journey. Lastly, Camden’s parents would like to thank their employers for their support and compassion.
