Carlia (Powell) Gish, 68, passed away on Monday, April 1, 2024 due to cardiomyopathy. She was surrounded by family and friends. Carlia was born on July 14, 1955 in Evansville to Carl and Geraldine (Sauer) Powell.
She graduated from Reitz High School in 1973. Carlia worked at Aramark Uniform Services for 32 years before retiring on February 28, 2007 due to heart issues. Following retirement, the greatest joy in her life was helping with her grandchildren, Ireland, Leo and Gunner. Her joy in life was being a wife, mother, and grandma. She enjoyed going to all of her grandkids activities and cheered loudly for her grandkids. She enjoyed helping her grandchildren with their many 4-H projects, but especially Genealogy and Dog Club. Carlia's favorite week of the year was the Vanderburgh County 4-H Fair. She also enjoyed playing cards, working in her yard and researching Genealogy. She was very thoughtful and caring. Carlia loved to chit-chat with her family and friends on the phone or send them messages. She enjoyed taking pictures and passing them out to friends and family.
In addition to her parents, Carlia was preceded in death by her grandmother, Udena Korff Sauer; father-in-law, Eddie Gish; sister and brother in-law, Charles and Shannon Mitz.
Carlia is survived by her husband of 48 years, Rickie Gish; daughters, Elizabeth (Justin) Guetling and Samantha (Kyle) Russelburg; grandchildren, Ireland and Leo Guetling, Gunner Russelburg; mother-in-law, Margaret Gish; brother-in-laws, David and Michael Gish; sister-in-law, Kimberly Sue (Robert) Glaser; nieces, nephews, and her beloved dogs, CoCo and Dakota.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 5, 2024 at St. Paul’s UCC German Township 8701 Big Cynthiana Rd Evansville, IN, officiated by Pastor Terry Farmer with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
Friends and family may visit on Thursday, April 4, 2024 from 3:00-7:00 p.m. at Alexander West Chapel, 2100 W. Illinois St., Evansville, IN, and on Friday 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Vanderburgh County 4-H Dog Club, 13301 Darmstadt Rd., Evansville, IN, 47725.
