Carol E. Gates

Carol was a beloved school bus driver for 38 years. She loved running into her students when she was out. Carol followed her husband in his racing, Sprint car and Mini-Sprints, and attending car shows and other events. She had many wonderful friends at West River over the years! Carol was Gaga to her grandkids and became a Great-Gaga in February.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Larry Dennis Gates, Sr.; son, Larry “Dennis” Gates, Jr; brothers, Bob Lindy and Ted Lindy.

Carol is survived her daughter, Lisa Smith (Gary); son-in-law, Bryan “Turtle” Monroe; grandchildren, Cory Smith (Cassandra), Cameron Smith (Madison), great-grandchildren, Chandler Kate Smith and Basil Clark Smith; sisters, Ann Hettenbach, Joyce Lindy, Linda Rickard, and Sharon Studer.

The family would like to thank Heart to Heart Hospice and West River Health Campus for their wonderful care and compassion through the years for Carol and all of the family.

A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 29, 2024 at Alexander West Chapel, 2100 W. Illinois Street, Evansville, IN, officiated by her favorite son-in-law, Gary Smith, followed by burial at Alexander Memorial Park. Friends and family may visit from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
