He will be remembered for his generosity and dedication to his family as well as his sense of humor (although some of his jokes seemed to be lost on everyone except himself). He was strong in his Catholic Faith and in the wisdom of God, but not in the majority population (as evidenced by this last election). Charlie Hicks was extremely fond of wild life, nature and in particular his love of thunder storms.
He attended Perry Heights elementary school for 4 years, St. Agnes for 5 years and graduated from Mater Dei High School in 1955. He served in the U. S. Navy from 1957 until his honorable discharge in 1959. Charles worked for the Courier and Press as a driver; he also worked for the National Furniture Company; he later sold vacuums, freezers; and sewing machines. He worked for the Orlando Sentinel Star from 1960-1961 and was a licensed insurance salesman in the state of Florida. Upon returning to Evansville, he found employment with Keller Crescent Company where he worked as a senior illustrator and retouch artist from 1962 until his retirement in 1996.
He was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Janice A. Hicks; second wife, Joan Hicks; and nephew, Robert Anthony Haas.
Charles is survived by his sister, Sandra Haas; daughter, Michele R. Jackson (Ted); sons, Bryan Hicks, Steven M. Hicks (Tammy), David C. Hicks (Kim); grandchildren, Dalton C. Hicks, Kelsey M. Hicks, Trevor A. Jackson; nephew, Raymond A. Haas, Randal A. Haas; fiancé`, Carol Bunge; step-daughters, Dawn Helfrich, Marsha Michael, and Linda Duncan.
