October 4, 1945 - June 3, 2026
Christine Marie (Sherwood) Werner, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away peacefully on June 3rd.
Christine was the wife of David Werner and a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church in Evansville.
Christine, known to most as Chris, was a stay at home mom to her 7 children for several years. During that time, she enjoyed coaching many soccer teams. Chris sat in countless bleachers as well, supporting her children and grandchildren.
Chris’ family meant everything to her and she would do anything for them. She loved to bring family together especially at Christmas (her favorite holiday). Chris’ greatest joy in life was being a Nana. She was incredibly proud of her 22 grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Chris loved to cook and bake for her family and friends. She was well known for her magic cookie bars, peanut butter fudge and key lime pie. Chris also knew how to make the perfect gallon of sweet tea.
As her children grew, Chris began to work outside the home. She started a job as cashier at Schnucks First Avenue in 1994. She would later move into the position of evening manager. Chris loved working at Schnucks and cherished all the friendships she made in her nearly 30 years there.
Christine was preceded in death by her parents, William Eli Sherwood and Dorothy Burdge Sherwood; her brother, Tony Weimer; and her sister, Ginny Sherwood.
She is survived by her husband, David Werner; her children: Jim Godsey (Jennifer), Jeff Godsey (Gwen), Jay Godsey (Julie), Susan Dominguez (Javier), John Werner (Laura), Sarah Chase (Todd), and Joel Werner (Carly); her siblings: William “Bill” Sherwood, Johnny Sherwood and Susie Austin (Tom); her grandchildren: Matthew, Emma, Zachary, Christopher, Lauren, Paige, Andrew, Preston, Morgan, Will, Anna, Ella, Sam, Holly, and Dorothy; and her great-grandchildren: Evelyn, Maggie, Zoey, Emerson, Declan, Brayton and Maeleigh.
