Clenneth E. Besing

Born on November 6, 1935, in Elberfeld, Indiana, he was the son of Vernie and Edith (Scholz) Besing.

He was married for 73 years to Shirley (Menikheim). Together, they raised four children and built a loving life together, with travel and community service.

Clenneth worked as a professional carpenter and mason before joining Alcoa Warrick Operations, where he retired after 32 years. Deeply committed to serving others, he and Shirley volunteered for over 20 years in disaster relief for the Southwest Chapter of the American Red Cross, Indiana Region. For his remarkable community service and contributions to society, Clenneth was honored as a Kentucky Colonel. He was a member of Lynnville Masonic Lodge and St. Paul United Church of Christ in German Township.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Clenneth cherished family gatherings, watching sports, and spending time gardening. His best part of any day was fishing with his sons. His generosity and guidance will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Clenneth was preceded in death by his parents, Vernie and Edith Besing; his daughter, JoNell (Besing) Stevenson; his siblings, Carolyn (Besing) Gill and Alan Besing; and an infant brother.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley (Menikheim) Besing; his children, Jan (Park) Firebaugh of Bloomington, IN, Grant (Terri Ann) Besing of Hobe Sound, FL, and Quent (Margaret) Besing of St. Louis, MO; son-in-law, John Stevenson of Carmel, IN; a sister, Margaret (Besing) Tyring of Newburgh, IN; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Visitation will be held for friends and family from 3:00 p.m. CDT until 7:00 p.m. CDT on Friday, September 11, 2026 at Alexander North Chapel, 4200 Stringtown Rd., where a Masonic Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. CDT.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. CDT on Saturday, September 12, 2026 at Alexander Memorial Park Chapel of Remembrance, 2200 Mesker Park Dr., officiated by Rev. Terry Farmer with entombment to follow in Alexander Memorial Park.

Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. CDT until service time at the cemetery chapel. The funeral service will be livestreamed at www.facebook.com/FuneralStreamUSA beginning on Saturday at 10:45 a.m. CDT.
