Obituary of Cynthia "Cyndi" Bonds-Conaway
Cynthia Bonds-Conaway, age 60, of Evansville, IN passed away at 3:30 p.m. on August 31, 2022. Cyndi was born December 5, 1961 at Great Lakes Naval Station, IL to Sgt. James and Judi (Macrafic) Bonds. Cyndi graduated from Green Mountain High School, Lakewood, CO and later graduated from the University of Colorado Denver. Upon graduation, Cyndi joined the United States Marine Corps in 1983 and commissioned a Second Lieutenant in 1984. She attended the USMC Officer Basic School for infantry tactics where she was in the first women’s platoon to complete the same course of instruction as the men. An Adjutant and Legal Officer for the 3rd Marine Air Wing, Cyndi met her husband David, a Marine Pilot at MCAS El Toro, CA. After 6 years, Cyndi left the Marine Corps to concentrate on raising their growing family. Cyndi became a Counseling Psychologist graduating from the University of North Florida with a Masters Degree in 1992. She was also a teacher and a coach at St John’s Country Day School from 1998-2003. She taught history and coached soccer and cross country and was well loved by her students. Cyndi loved tennis and travel and her great circle of friends at Tri State Fitness and Tennis Club. Cyndi is survived by her husband, David (CDR Retired USMC/USN); sons, Michael (Capt. Army), John (Lt. USN), and Ian (senior at Mater Dei); daughters-in-law, Debbie and Bethany; grandson, Nolan David; mother, Judi Bonds; sister, Lori Gregory and her husband, Glenn (Maj. USMC) and their sons, John and Daniel (Cpl. USMCR). Cyndi was preceded in death by her father, 1st Sgt. James Bonds (USMC). A Memorial Service will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at Alexander West Chapel with Rev. Gene Schroeder officiating. Friends may visit from 3:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Military honors will be conducted by the Marine Corps League at the funeral home.
