She professed her faith in God at an early age, and for years, was an usher at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church where she was a member. She was employed at YWCA Women’s Shelter. As a child, she sang in the choir at New Hope Baptist Church. Darnell was a fun-loving, free spirit. She enjoyed cooking and her favorite dish was sweet potato pie.
She is survived by her son, Richard Eldridge; grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins; and caregivers, Viola and Clinton.

Services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 22, 2014, at Alexander East Chapel, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit Wednesday from 10:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.
