David K. Houghland

Born in Evansville, Indiana, to William Oliver Houghland and Betty Jean "Jeanne" (Gibson) Chappell, David was a proud Union Carpenter with Carpenters Local #224, dedicating 27 years to the craft. A man of many talents, he had an unwavering drive to fix anything that came his way. David had a true passion for drag racing motorcycles, embracing the thrill of the sport and the camaraderie it offered.

For the last seven years, David lived in Englewood, Florida, on the Gulf of Mexico aboard a motor yacht, enjoying the beauty of the coast and cherishing time with his wife and extended family. David was known for his infectious laugh, gift of gab, and the warmth he shared with everyone he met. He was a friendly soul who loved deeply, especially his family, who were the center of his world.

David is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Kelly Houghland; son, William K. "Bill" Houghland; mother, Jeanne Chappell; grandchildren, Grant, Cash, and Stella Houghland; brother, Tim (Lisa) Luttrull; sister, Connie "Sissy" Hayes; brother-in-law, Dennis Knotts; nephews, Mike Luttrull, Ryan (Lauren) Luttrull, Dennis Jr. (TJ) Knotts, Andy Knotts, Rick (Brittney) Hayes, and Billy (Chris) Houghland; nieces, Amy (Stephan) Fenwick, Missy Houghland, and Jose Houghland; as well as seven great-nephews, seven great-nieces, and multiple great-great-nieces and nephews. He is also survived by many cousins and his beloved parents-in-law, Everett and Jeanne Ethridge and Sandra Toton.

He was preceded in death by his father, William O. Houghland; stepmother, LaVern Houghland; son, Zachariah; brothers, Micky Houghland and Mark Luttrull; niece, C.J. Luttrull; and great-niece, Megan Gaffney.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Alexander West Chapel, 2100 W. Illinois Street, Evansville, IN, followed by a service at 6:00 PM officiated by Pastor Kim Wells. The service will be live streamed at www.facebook.com/FuneralStreamUSA beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 18, 2025.
