David Scott “Dave” McDonald, 82, of Evansville, IN, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Saturday, February 22, 2025. He was born on March 11, 1942, in Evansville, IN, to the late Noah and Dorothy (Bruner) McDonald.
Dave was a hardworking man who proudly earned his high school diploma and an honorary degree from the "school of hard knocks." His strong work ethic carried him through multiple careers, including his time as a Test Operator at Bucyrus Erie, before retiring as a dedicated groundskeeper and maintenance worker for EVSC. A true "Jack of All Trades", Dave was never without a job or a project in motion, always finding something to build, fix, or improve.
Life with Dave was anything but dull. He was a natural storyteller with a sharp sense of humor, a practical joker who loved pulling tricks, and an instigator of surprise water fights in the house. His adventurous spirit was evident in his love for drag racing with his family as his pit crew. He also found joy riding his motorcycle alongside his daughter, Shauna.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Brenda Lois (Keeney) McDonald; daughters, Candi Goodwin (Allan), Melanie David (Ralph), and Shauna McDonald (Steve Keyes); grandchildren, Taylor Goodwin, Austin Goodwin, Ryan David (Maggie), and Aaron David; great-grandson, Riggs David; brothers, Pat McDonald (Trish) and Mark McDonald (Ann); sister-in-law, Sandy McDonald; brother-in-law, Tom Hobdy; and many nieces and nephews.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Noah and Dorothy McDonald, his brother, Noel McDonald; and sister in-law, Chetta Hobdy.
Family and friends are invited to gather for a visitation on Saturday, March 1, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Alexander West Chapel, 2100 W. Illinois Street, Evansville, IN. A Celebration of Dave’s Life will follow at 2:00 p.m., officiated by his brother, Deacon Mark McDonald.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Deaconess ICU, the 2nd floor Unit and Palliative Care staff as well as the Heritage Nursing Home for their compassionate care.
