

David was a farmer for most of his life, he belonged to the Dairyman’s Association. He worked at Schnucks in his later years. As a farmer, he had the ability to create and repair many items on the farm. David overcame his speech and hearing impediment with a smile and laughter that lit up the room around him. He loved spending time with his grandkids and enjoyed making jokes.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty (Schauss) Schmitz; brothers, Charles Schmitz, Paul Schmitz, Earl Schmitz, Norman Schmitz, John Schmitz and Stephen Schmitz; sisters, Charlotte Charles and Alberta Schmitz.
David is survived by his daughters, Mary Lee (Gary), Marsha Burmeister (Joseph), and Marilyn Frank (Keith); grandchildren, Mackenzie Schmidt (Kraig), Ryan Burmeister (Hannah), Hannah Burmeister, and Trenton Burmeister (Samantha); great-grandchildren, Hope and Charles Schmidt, Noah and Ava Burmeister, and Elijah Burmeister; sisters-in-law, Mary Schauss and Clara Schmitz.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at Zion Lippe UCC Church, 9000 E. Copperline Rd, Mt Vernon, IN 47620, officiated by Pastor Jeff Long. Friends and family may visit Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the church.
