She was born on October 16, 1938, in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. She married her one-and-only loving husband of 65 years on September 15, 1961 in The Hague, The Netherlands.
Dee emigrated with her family to the United States in 1979 where they first settled in Texas, then New Jersey, before establishing their permanent home in Evansville, Indiana in 1989.
She was a loving, supportive, and caring mother and mother-in-law, and a very engaged and loving grandmother, "Mimi", to three cherished grandsons, Sebastian and Tobias Bonger, and Lucas Young.
She held a special place in the hearts of all who knew her, a presence brightened by her quick wit and unique accent.
She highly appreciated the arts and music, and was an avid book reader who proudly owned a private bookstore for many years. She was an enthusiastic lover of domino games, weekly Mahjong play with friends, solving Sudokus, and anything that engaged her mind. Dee was an active member of the bridge club and reveled in the friendships and meetings with her book clubs.
Dee is survived by her husband, Robert Bonger; and her two children, Valentijn Bonger (Linda) of Zurich, Switzerland and Merel Bonger-Young (Kenny) of Washington, D.C.; brother, Cornelius Brutsch (Loes); and brother-in-law, Frank Bonger (Pauline), both residing in The Netherlands.
The family extends its deepest appreciation to Solarbron's staff at the Pointe for the wonderful care and compassion they provided over the past years, as well as the final care and assistance received at the Terrace and by Heart to Heart Hospice.
A private family service will be held.
Memorial contributions and in lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that any donations be made to the Rheumatoid Arthritis, Foundation, https://helpfightra.org/, to honor Dee's long-term struggles with this disease.
May our sweet wife, mother, and Mimi rest in peace.
