Deloris attended Columbia Grade School where she played violin in the band and orchestra for 5 years. She also enjoyed being a majorette, marching in Evansville parades.
Deloris was a 1945 graduate of Central High School. Following graduation she made many friends working at the Grand and Carlton Theatres. She also enjoyed watching the Big Band performances.
Deloris was a graduate of DeVries Beauty School. She opened her first Beauty Salon on First Avenue. She then opened Deloris's Beauty Salon on the corner of Maryland and Oakley, at that location she gave "the shortest ringlet" in town for 50 years.
Deloris married Dorsie Gibson in 1948. They were married for 60 years before his passing in 2009.
Deloris is survived by daughter, Rebecca Reynolds (Jack), son, Dorsie Mark Gibson (Carol); grandchildren, Jason Gibson (the late beautiful Andra Gibson), Jennifer Gibson Hamilton (Nick) and Emily Sherfey (Brian). Her ten great grandchildren were a source of joy, bringing love and laughter to the home. Deloris was a lifetime member of Central United Methodist Church from the age of 6 to 87 where she
enjoyed participating in many activities until her health worsened. At 87, she started attending West Side Church of Christ. Deloris enjoyed playing Bingo, making stained glass ornaments and spending time with her family and friends. She was a wonderful cook. Her family always looked forward to home cooked meals featuring chicken and dumplings, green beans and mashed potatoes. Deloris always enjoyed waiting on "the little old ladies" in her beauty shop. Not only were they customers but first and foremost, friends. Though we are left to mourn her passing, we rejoice that Deloris lived this life well and looked forward to reuniting with family and friends in her eternal life with Christ. Her family is thankful for prayers, cards, calls and visits by all.
A special thank you to Wanda Umphries, her loving caregiver for the past two years, and to the staff of Heritage Hospice.
Deloris was preceded in death by her husband, Dorsie Merle Gibson; parents, Samuel and Mary Settlemoire; brother, Samuel Settlemoire II; son, Bradley Dee Gibson.
