Dennis D. Schweitzer

Dennis D. Schweitzer, a beloved member of the Evansville community, passed away peacefully at the age of 86. He was born May 26, 1940 in Evansville to Cyril and Audrey (Schmitt) Schweitzer. Dennis touched the lives of many with his warmth, humor, and generosity.

A proud graduate of North High School's class of 1958, Dennis embarked on a career that would see him dedicate himself to hard work and camaraderie. He began his professional journey with Miller Electroplating before finding his true calling as a driver for the Teamsters Union Local 215, where he worked diligently until his retirement. His work ethic and loyalty were admired by his colleagues, and he was known for his unwavering commitment to his job.

Beyond his professional life, Dennis found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He had a deep love for working in the yard, where he spent countless hours meticulously cutting grass, finding peace and satisfaction in the rhythm of his tasks. His knack for humor was legendary; he was forever cutting jokes and bringing laughter to those around him. A fond memory he often shared was his experience working as a driver on the set of A League of Their Own. Dennis very much enjoyed his time working with Tom Hanks and Geena Davis and spoke about how kind their were. But perhaps Dennis's most remarkable trait was his generosity. He had a heart that reached out to those in need, always ready to lend a helping hand or offer support.

Dennis was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorethea Schweitzer; daughter, Mary Ann Miller (Ray); brother, Terry Schweitzer; and parents, Cyril and Audrey Schweitzer.

He is survived by his daughter, Julia Baker (Jim); granddaughters, Denise Peden (Mindy), Lindy McCollom, and Brooke Baker; grandson Chad Baker (Maggie); 10 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandchild.

Dennis's memory will be honored with a funeral service at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, August 10, 2026 at Alexander Memorial Park Chapel of Remembrance, located at 2200 Mesker Park Dr. Evansville, IN. Family and friends are invited to visit from 10:30 a.m. until service time at the cemetery chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Alzheimer's and Dementia research reflecting Dennis's journey with the condition in his later years.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Walnut Creek for their compassionate care, with special thanks to Debbi for her dedicated attention and care for Dennis.

Dennis will be dearly missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
