Dorothy Chloe Alexander of Evansville, Indiana, went peacefully to be with the Lord on March 19, 2026, at the age of 96, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on December 10, 1929, in Dawson Springs, Kentucky, Chloe lived a long and meaningful life defined by faith, kindness, and devotion to those she loved.
Chloe’s life was deeply rooted in her faith. She was a devoted member of Washington Avenue Baptist Church for more than 50 years and later attended New Bethel Baptist Church for 25 years. She found joy in the simple, beautiful moments of everyday life: sewing, crafting, cooking, tending her garden, and most of all, being with her family. Her home was a place of warmth, care, quiet love, and her presence was a steady comfort to those around her.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack D. Alexander; her parents, Hershel and Martha Grace Dearing Hamby; her sisters, Agnes Howton and Marie Toler; her brother, Wayne Hamby; and her grandson-in-law, Jerrod Elmendorf.
Chloe leaves behind a family who cherished her deeply: her daughters, Peg Barnett and Cindy Martin (Bob); her grandchildren, Lisa Barnett Jarrell (Michael), Laura Barnett, Christy Elmendorf (Jason Phelps), and Neil Martin (Tarah); her great-grandchildren, Kenneth Alex Elmendorf (Kiersten), Hannah Martin, Skylar Phelps, Katherine Summers (Ethan), and Elizabeth Jarrell (Jake); and her great-great-grandchildren, Aiken, Simon, and Wayne Summers, with another great-great-grandchild (Elmendorf) expected in August. Her love and gentle spirit will live on through each of them.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Heart-to-Heart Hospice for the compassion, kindness, and loving care shown to Chloe in her final days.
Family and friends are invited to gather to remember and celebrate Chloe’s life on Monday, March 23, 2026, 11am – 1pm CST at Alexander Funeral Home West Chapel, 2100 W. Illinois Street in Evansville officiated by Pastor Cole Hughes. Service will begin at 1:00 pm CST with interment to follow at Alexander Memorial Park.
