

Dorothy retired from Atlas Van Lines and Shane Uniform Company. She still met monthly with past co-workers of both companies for lunch.
She was a Sunday School Teacher at St. Paul United Church of Christ on Michigan for many years, where she was a member of the Ladies Aid.
Dorothy also belonged to the Friends and Neighbors Extension Homemakers Club and was a Charter Member (over 50 years); AARP; the Goodwill Auxiliary and held many offices. She was an avid volunteer.
She loved gardening, crafts, and sewing.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Lester Helfert on August 20, 2007, brother and sister-in-law, John and Betty Bumb, brother, Daniel Bumb, brothers-in-law, Melvin Roettger and William Barrett.
Dorothy is survived by her son, David (Susan); daughter, Nancy (Dennis) Moore and son, Daryl (Sharon); grandchildren, James (Lisa) Helfert, Kristen (Josiah) McCollum, Leslie (Michael) Moore, Drew Helfert, Andrea, Nicole, and Alexa Moore; and great grandchildren, Kaitlynn, Jakob and Kellie McCollum, Amber Tepe, and Landry Moore; sisters, Marjorie Roetteger, Mildred Barrett, Erlene (Robert) Dreier, Agnes (Marlin) Kissel; brother, Gilbert (Patricia) Bumb; sister-in-law, Janet Bumb; many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and cousins.
Services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at St. Paul United Church of Christ, officiated by Rev. Lynn Marino, with burial in Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit Tuesday from 2:00 to 8:00 PM at Alexander West Chapel and Wednesday from 9:00 AM until service time at the church.
