Dorothy Easley Stanley Wells, 103, died peacefully on September 23, 2025, in Evansville, IN. Dorothy (Dotty) was born July 14, 1922, in Marion, KY, to James and Lilly Easley, the youngest of six children.
Upon graduation from high school, she and her best friend came to Evansville and were immediately hired by Servel, where they worked making wings for the Republic P-47 Thunderbolt airplane during WW II. She then worked as cashier at the Club Trocadero until it closed in 1954. She owned and operated Stringtown Bar during the 1950's. Dotty lived an active, upbeat life, enjoying bowling, horse racing, motorcycles, convertibles, the casino, and her many card clubs, some lasting over 50 years. She kept a meticulous accounting of each day's wins and losses (mostly in cents!). She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary and the Owls Club. She went to her last horse race at Ellis Park at the age of 102, instructing her companions how to choose and bet properly. She was a gracious hostess right up the end. You could not visit her and leave empty-handed.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Haynes Stanley, her second husband, James Wells, and her son, Nicholas Stanley. She is survived by an array of loving nieces, nephews, and their children.
There will be no visitation at Alexander East Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 29, 2025 at Sunset Memorial Park, 1800 St. George Road, Evansville, IN with Rev. Mary Beth McCandless officiating.
The family is grateful to Holiday Village, Wyndmoor of Evansville, and Heritage Hospice for their attentive care of Dotty in her waning days.
