Words seem inadequate to express my condolences. Doug meant so many things to so many different people. I was fortunate to know him, work for him, then become his business partner.
Virtual hugs to all of you--Cheri, Stacee, Sean, DJ, and your families.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you as you deal with the loss--Glenna and Jim Shelby

I had the privilege to work with Doug for several decades. We shared a client that serves Indiana's disabled population. Doug was warm and caring, and dedicated to his clients and friends. He always had a good story to share, with a fine sense of humor. We missed him in the halls of the Statehouse over the last decade, but are happy he got to give this time to his loving family. Doug will not be forgotten.

I was so sorry to hear the news of Doug's passing today. I had the pleasure to work closely with Doug for 13 years and felt honored to call him a colleague and a friend. He was a hell of a good guy and his family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Prayers for Cheri and Doug's family. I worked with Doug when he became the lobbyist for the IMHA. He was a man of integrity, who showed me the correct way to conduct oneself when dealing with legislators and public officials. He never wavered in his decorum regardless of the situation. Doug was a kind man and respected by all who knew him.

Doug was a Great American, an honorable man who was caring, thoughtful, and one of the finest persons I’ve ever known. After a long friendship through our work at the State House, I was fortunate enough to be offered a lobby position with Doug and his business partner, Glenna Shelby. The opportunity to work with and learn from Doug and later become a business partner was life-changing. I would not be the person I am today without his guidance. Love and prayers for his wife Cheri and his entire family. Doug will be greatly missed and I am profoundly grateful and blessed to have been a part of his life. RIP Doug Simmons.

Doug was a good friend during the time we were both in the State House (he working the halls and me working in Legislative Services). He was a kind, caring man who loved his family and friends and was respected by those he interacted with in his work. He will be missed by all who knew him. My condolences to Cheri and all his family.

I was a classmate of Doug's at Lincoln. He was just a all around good guy. Always enjoyed being round him. I am sorry for your loss and hope you can reflect on the good memories.

Doug was a kind and caring friend. As a young and inexperienced lobbyist, I appreciated that he was willing to share his wisdom in a caring and easy manner. His sense of humor and willingness to give of his time and talents to a worthy cause was just a few of his many special traits. It saddens me to learn of his passing.
So sorry to Cherri and his children who he loved dearly and expressed this openly and often. 🙏🙏

Doug Simmons was a gracious man. I met him when I was an intern in the mid-80s. A good lobbyist, who loved his family

I interned for Doug in 1993 and am truly thankful to have had the opportunity to learn from him and ultimately be his friend. He clearly loved his kids - talked about them all the time - and was so happy to have found Cheri. He left a big legacy of strong ethics and kindness that many of us will try to live up to. Love and peace to Cheri, Stacee, Doug Jr., Sean, and all who loved him.
