Dwight “George” Lawrence Johnson of Newburgh passed away on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2024 at the age of 73. Born in Coloma, Michigan, Dwight grew up in Fort Wayne and graduated from South Side High School. Dwight was an Air Force veteran and worked many service industry jobs in his life. He loved his work for religious organizations best and was always a deeply religious man.
He is preceded in death by his beloved mother, “Soothin’” Sara, his father, Lawrence, and his “sis,” Carla.
He is survived by his children, and by his nieces, of whom he always spoke with love and pride.
Dawn, Jenny, and Becky would like to thank Wayne Brown, Dwight’s roommate and dear friend, Festus, Mary Ann, and all the caring staff at Cypress Grove. We hope that folks who knew Dwight will remember his smooth talkin’ and think of him when they eat blackberries warmed from the sun. We are sure George and Sis are fishin’ together right now in a canoe on a river made of stars. See you next time, George. We love you.
