

Edith E. (Jones) Wells, 97, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away on June 27, 2026 at the Linda E. White Hospice House. She was born on August 10, 1928 in Morgantown, Ky to the late Phillip A. and Pearl (Dukes) Gardner.
Edith devoted her life to the care of her family, giving her days to the steady, faithful work of loving and providing for those closest to her. In all the seasons of life, she was guided by a deep sense of responsibility and quiet devotion—values that shaped her home and remained evident to all who knew her.
A member of West Side Church of Christ, Edith’s life reflected a reverence for faith and community, expressed with consistency and sincerity. She had worked for Mead Johnson and Evans School.
Edith is survived by her daughter, Pam Dietrich (George); sons, Chris Jones (Krista), Brian Wells, and Duane Wells; son-in-law, Tony Byrns; grandchildren, Amber LaBaw (Israel), Jhett Ogura, Cole Jones, Kenzie Jones, Kylie Jones and Chris Wells; and great granddaughter, Aspyn Ogura. She is also survived by her sisters, Sarah Gardner, Sue Hooper, and Doris Martin; sister-in-law, Imogene Gardner;many nieces and nephews; and caregivers, Betty Carol Mayes, Jean Ann Garretson and Rose Spilmon.
She was preceded in death by husband, Estil Jones; husband, Lindel Wells; daughter, Jackie Ogura; sisters, Jewel Gardner, Margie Finch and Faye Ward; and brothers, Jim Gardner, Harold Gardner, Tom Gardner and Glenn Gardner.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m until 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1, 2026 at Alexander North Chapel, followed by a brief service officiated by Rev. Larry Albritton. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
The family would like to thank the staff at West River Health Campus, Deaconess Midtown unit 5600 and the Linda E. White Hospice House for their wonderful care.
