Ray was a proud United States Navy Veteran, where he served 22 years as a Senior Chief cryptologist. Ray was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Those who knew Ray knew his love for old cars, music, the beach, fishing and especially spending time with his family. There was never a gathering too small, and he always brought the party with him. He was a member of the British Car Club, NCVA, VFW Post 1114 and enjoyed cruising in his MG with his wife.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Eldon and Esther (Wolf) Hanes.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Janis (Reis) Hanes; his three children, son, Kevin (Tina) Hanes, daughters, Lori Hanes and Joyce Hanes, stepchildren, Jeff (Kelly) Willis; and Jonna Gerbig (Brian), and a brother, Bob (Phyllis) Hanes. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Daniel Cutteridge, Rebecca (Matt) McGuyer, Bert (Alex) Eaton, Devin Bercegeay, Ashley Fuhs, Valerie (Jordan) Saucier, Heather Hines, Josh Kingsbury, Jonathan (Katie) Gerbig and Jared Willis and Taylor (Clay) Brewer; 17 great grandchildren which included his “sunshine”, Opal Ann; many nieces and nephews; and extended family and friends whom he loved dearly.
