

Elizabeth graduated from Agnes Scott College, and received her Master’s and PhD from Vanderbilt University. After completing her doctorate in 1953, she went on to teach in the Vanderbilt Department of Pharmacology in the School of Medicine until she married the love of her life Frederick A. Grunwald, PhD in June, 1957. Elizabeth has lived in Evansville since 1957. She dedicated her life to her family, church and community.
She will be remembered for her kind and generous heart. She spent many years driving for Meals on Wheels and volunteered as a tax advisor for AARP for over 15 years. She found great joy in helping others. Elizabeth enjoyed gardening and was an avid runner, up into her 70’s. She was a charter member (51 years) of Messiah Lutheran Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick A. Grunwald on December 19, 1991.
Elizabeth is survived by her sons, Fred Grunwald (Valerie) and Bill Grunwald (Kay); daughter, Betty Grunwald-Carruth (David); brother, Robert Dunn, MD; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 9, 2011, at Alexander West Chapel, officiated by Rev. Sean Esterline, with burial in Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made in Elizabeth’s memory to Messiah Lutheran Church or a Parkinson’s Foundation of your choice.
