Born July 3,1940 in Dale, Indiana, Elizabeth was the second daughter of Raleigh and Ruth Taylor. She graduated from Dale High School in 1958 and attended Indiana University in Bloomington where she made life-long friends and met her future husband, Don E. Lockridge. After marrying in 1961, Don and Elizabeth lived in Boston, where Don was stationed with the US Navy. In 1963, son Jeffrey was born. In 1966, they moved to Evansville where Elizabeth resided for the rest of her life.
Liz (as many friends called her) was a kind, generous, and thoughtful lady with an independent spirit and a wicked sense of humor. She always had a funny story to tell, some at her own expense, and was a wonderful listener as well. She hosted many gatherings of friends and families in her home, welcoming all who came equally, never turning away anyone brought to her table.
She worked at St. Mary’s Hospital (now St. Vincent’s) as a seamstress for 36 years. After retirement, she kept busy. She worked as a volunteer at the Vanderburgh County Humane Society, where she cared for many cats and kittens, was active in her church, and organized a monthly “breakfast club” with other St. Mary’s retirees and friends. She often went on weekend trips around the Tri-State area with friends Jerry and Joan Wright who visited her monthly from Indianapolis..
Elizabeth was an extremely accomplished seamstress. For many things she made, she never needed a pattern. In addition to her work at St. Mary’s, she sewed everything from curtains, matching family reunion outfits, and countless Halloween costumes for the children in her extended family, to a wedding dress for her first daughter-in-law, Kimberly Reynolds. Many of those who knew her have items she sewed or crafted for them to remember her by.
She attended Howell United Methodist Church, where she was an active member, serving on many committees, teaching bible school, organizing parties, and cooking for get-togethers and dinners at the church.
Elizabeth’s hobbies included knitting, cross-stitch, and various other crafts along with reading (particularly mysteries) and working jigsaw puzzles.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents Raleigh and Ruth Taylor, former husband Don E. Lockridge, long-time companion Jay Cavins, and brother-in-law David Adams.
She is survived by son Jeff (Lisa) Lockridge, of Evansville, Indiana, sister Evelyn Adams, of Tobinsport, Indiana, special nieces Mary (Mark) Garretson of Tobinsport, Indiana and Debbie (Steve) Hudson of Evansville, Indiana, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews, and grand- nieces and nephews, all of whom fondly remember their Aunt Liz.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Debbie Bingham, Elizabeth’s home health aide from Visiting Care Plus, along with her caregivers from Heart to Heart Hospice, particularly nurse Kylie and aides Alex and Keisha, for their compassionate loving care, their support, and for making it possible for Elizabeth to remain at home with Jeff and Lisa.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 14th, 2026 at Alexander Funeral Home West, 2100 West Illinois Street, Evansville, Indiana with long-time friend Pastor Kassie Kramer of Howell UMC officiating.
