

Elveria “Vera” Marie (Kuhlenschmidt) Deutsch, 83, of Evansville, passed away Friday, October 14, 2011. Born in rural Evansville, she was confirmed and married at Salem Church of Darmstadt. She married Edward Jacob Deutsch at the age of 17. They celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary in August.
Vera was a loving wife, mother and homemaker, always learning by doing, whether canning, refinishing furniture, wallpapering, dealing in antiques, or entering her sewing pieces at the Vanderburgh County Dress Revue. One outfit earned her a silver platter at the State Fair. She and Ed were leaders in Star 4-H Club for 15 years. This included working with Round-Up, awards and decorations. She also had an Avon route in Newburgh and was employed by Stewarts Department Store for five years where she did flower arranging, office work, and gift wrap. She then worked at a flower shop in North Park.
Elveria was a member of Inglefield Home Ec Club. She enjoyed sewing for Riley Hospital projects. She embroidered quilts for each of her children and grandchildren. She and Ed formed lifelong friendships through 4-H, Good Sam Camping Club, and Twin Fountains in Florida. While in Florida, she was Craft Leader, made teddy bears and dolls for ambulances and for Winterhaven Hospital.
Vera was preceded in death by sister, Geraldine “Gerri” Herke; and brothers Delbert and Leroy.
Elveria had many friends and family members who loved her. In addition to her husband, Ed, Vera is survived by her sister, Evelyn Stewart (John); sister-in-law, Mildred Kuhlenschmidt (Oestreicher); children, Warren (Mary Arendt), Barbara (Allen Dickason), Steve (Becky Bumb), Don (the late Karen Godeke), Sharon (John “Jack” Bumb), Mark (Jennifer Reininga); grandchildren, Eddie, Christine (Scott Broster), Bradley Dickason (Clarissa Malek), Jeffrey Dickason, Michael (Beth Phares), Matthew (Katie Scapin), Nick, Alyse, Erica, Adam Bumb, Amanda; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10:00 AM Monday, October 17, 2011, at Salem Church of Darmstadt, 14134 Darmstadt Road, officiated by Pastor David Peterson, with burial in Salem’s Cemetery. Friends may visit Sunday from 1:00 to 7:00 PM at Alexander North Chapel, 4200 Stringtown Road and Monday from 9:00 AM at the church.
