Born September 28, 1944 in Greenville, Kentucky to the late Emanuel Norwood Clayton Sr. and Marjorie (Richardson) Clayton.
Woody, after spending a year in an iron lung at the age of 6, survived Polio. As a student of the Trades and Industry program he then graduated from North High School in the class of 1963. In June 1964 he married Karen Kaye (Krauss) Clayton after meeting at Weinbach’s Pharmacy and Cafeteria where they both worked their during Jr. and Sr. years. From there he began his career, spending more than 40 years as a plastic injection mold maker and fathering his 2 children Kristin and Nickolas. A man with a style of his own and many talents, he was known for his caring but stubborn nature, blunt honesty, integrity and humility. As a natural leader and family man he soon stepped into a mentor role at his Masonic Lodge #64 where he helped many young men make their own path. He leaves behind forever lasting memories for everyone his life has touched through his capable hands and creative imagination in wondrous handmade painted woodworks and the personally framed projects which were his hobby and passion. Among this creativity, he spent his time fishing, tinkering, loving all manner of animals (as any wizard would) and helping his grandchildren grow to be the best they could ever be. “Always read the directions first!” he would say. Because of this amazing life he led, his friends and family, both the Muggle and Wizarding World, Middle Earth and any land where there are dragons to be trained will sorely miss him. To INFINITY and BEYOND! Our #1 Pawpaw. We love you.
He is survived by his amazing wife Karen Kaye (Krauss) Clayton (79), his 2 children, Kristin Kaye Finnan (57), Nickolas Owen Clayton (50), his 4 grandchildren Brandon Owen Jeffers (36), Shelby Wayne Jeffers (33), Andrew Nickolas Clayton (24) and Olivia Louise Clayton (18). Last but not least his beloved Millie (9) his Yorkshire Terrier. The sweetest girl….
Immense gratitude to the ICU staff on the 4800 unit of Deaconess Midtown for their care, compassion and attentiveness in such trying times.
In lieu of flowers the family humbly requests making donations to any animal shelter, humane society or nonprofit animal association in honor of such a wonderful animal lover.
