

Evelyn Wildt Bernard passed away February 12, 2025, at Woodlands Care Center. She was born on November 2, 1919, to Walter and Augusta (Bergdorf) Wildt in Union Township in the house where she lived much of her life. She married J. Robert Bernard on February 14, 1940. Evelyn worked as a “Rosie the Riveter” at Republic Aviation until near the end of WW II.
Evelyn and Bob farmed together until his retirement in 1981. She was active in the 4-H Fair Association, St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Howell United Methodist Church, Vanderburgh Homemakers Association, the Barker Extension Homemakers and Farm Bureau.
Evelyn is survived by her sons, John R. Bernard, Jr., (Mary Ann), Dane T. Bernard (Kathy) and Gary D. Bernard (Paula); grandchildren, Philip and Eddie Bernard (Kristy Boyer), Lenore (Ray) Engler, Marysa (Aaron) Ethridge, Allyson (Mike) Dawson, Katy (Brian) Petrosky, Rhiannon and Megan Bernard; step-grandchildren, Ryan and Lesley Zingery; great-grandchildren, Kyle and Elyse Dawson, Jude and Zeke Petrosky.
Preceding her in death was her husband of 55 years, Bob Bernard; parents, Walter and Augusta Wildt; siblings, Herbert, Walter and Victor Wildt, Lillian Smoker, Marguerite Grisham, Edna Winiger, and Helen Thomas; and daughter-in-law, Ann Bernard.
Friends may visit on Saturday, February 22, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Alexander West Chapel, 2100 W. Illinois Street, Evansville, IN with services to follow at 3:00 pm at the chapel.
The family would like to thank Woodlands Care Center and Heart to Heart Hospice for their kindness and care of Evelyn.
