Gary graduated from Elk Grove High School in 1976 and went on to earn several degrees in accounting and finance from the University of Southern Indiana. His career led him to work as an accountant at Fire Side Gallery, where he focused on the financial side of the business. Outside of his professional life, it was his love for photography that truly defined his passion. Gary particularly enjoyed capturing landscape shots and photos of hot air balloons, which became a personal pursuit separate from his work at the gallery.
He had a deep appreciation for the outdoors, enjoying nature and traveling to capture its beauty through his lens. Although he loved nature, he preferred staying in hotels to camping, opting for comfort during his travels. He was also an avid gardener and a self-proclaimed foodie, a love he shared with his wife, Susan, of 45 years.
Gary enjoyed watching the Chicago sports teams play, but not without bitching about how bad they sucked until they won. However, perhaps his most beloved passion was Disney. Gary and his wife, Susan, spent their honeymoon at Disney World. His love for Disney was so great that it became a central theme in their home, with their living room being a testament to his affection for all things Disney.
Gary is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Susan; his children, Christina Elizabeth Skie (Abdel Hinaje), Nicholas William Skie (Robbie Roberts), Michael Francis Skie (Katie), and Daniel Aaron Skie (Alexa Koch-Skie); and his six grandchildren, Jalal, Landon, Edison, Xavier, Emma, and Sofie. He is also survived by his mother, Helen Skie; his siblings, Scott Gregory Skie (Nancy) and Karen J. Rice (Paul); his beloved dog, Riley, the “sofa dog,” who sat next to the boss all day; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father.
