George David Schroeder

He owned and operated Shell and Marathon Service stations in New Harmony and Mt. Vernon for 42 years. He was an officer of the Automotive Service Station Dealership Association. He was a member of Zion Lippe United Church of Christ in Mt. Vernon and served on the Church Council and Stewardship Committee. He was an adult advisor for the Senior Youth Group and Men’s Lenten Breakfast. He was involved with the Booster’s Club for the Evansville Otters and enjoyed the Indianapolis Colts, St. Louis Cardinals, and IU basketball. He enjoyed playing Clabber and many years of fishing, boating and spending family time at his cabin on Barkley Lake. He also enjoyed living in the country and raising animals.

George was preceded in death by his parents, Clara and Henry Schroeder; stepmother, Fern Schroeder; son, Alan David Schroeder; siblings, Paul (Lola) Schroeder and Carl (Regina) Schroeder; and brother-in-law, Charles Randall.

He is survived by his wife, Loretta Jean Schroeder; sisters, Lillian Randall, Hilda (James) Donner, and Laverne (Elwood) Deal; brother, Ernest Schroeder; children, Carla (Duane) Barnhart, Steve (Cathy) Schroeder, and Stan Schroeder; grandchildren, Rhiannon (Joseph) Anderson, Alex Barnhart, Tyler and Claire Schroeder, and Tyler and Brianna Buttrill; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 28, 2015, at Zion Lippe United Church of Christ, 9000 Copperline Road, officiated by Pastor Linda Nanninga, with burial in Zion Lippe United Church of Christ Cemetery. Friends may visit Tuesday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Alexander West Chapel, 2100 West Illinois Street.
