

Gertrude was born on Valentine's Day, 1912, in Lincoln Creek, Nebraska. Her parents were Herman E. Meyer, a Lutheran pastor, and Ida Brauer Meyer. Gertrude's life was happy and long. After graduating from high school, she taught all grades in a one-room school, kept house for cousins of Buffalo Bill Cody, and worked for the state treasurer in Lincoln, NE. In 1940, she married Art Klausmeier and moved to Evansville, IN. Here she made a home for Art and their two sons, Arthur and Robert, and served her church, St. Paul Lutheran. Gertrude loved singing, welcoming visitors, quilting, and baking coffee cakes for her church; most of all, she loved her Lord.
She was preceded in death by her husband Art, her parents, five brothers, and five sisters.
Gertrude is survived by sons Art (Susan) and Bob of Fort Wayne; four grandchildren: Julie (Tim) Kanzelmeyer, Kim (Eric) Schilf, Christine (Mark) Radio, and Tim (Mallory) Klausmeier; and nine great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held in Fort Wayne at 11 a.m. on February 9 in Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 917 W. Jefferson Blvd, with visitation at the church beginning at 9:30 a.m. A visitation also will be held in Evansville, IN, on Friday, February 12, followed by a committal the next day. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Alexander Funeral Home - North Chapel - 4200 Stringtown Rd; committal at Oak Hill Cemetery, 1400 E. Virginia St., Saturday, February 13 at 11 a.m. Memorials may be made to the building fund at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne. Arrangements by Klaehn, Fahl and Melton F.H.
